BETTING STRATEGY TESTING

Test the assumptions behind a betting strategy.

Choosing betting strategy testing software starts with knowing what it tests. StakeSmith helps you inspect NFL blueprints and odds-based risk estimates. Historical backtesting needs a separate process.

WORKED EXAMPLE / CHANGE ONE ASSUMPTION

Five percentage points can flip the answer.

Take one hypothetical $10 bet at -110. Decimal odds are 1.9091, so the break-even win probability is 52.38%. Hold the price and stake fixed. Only change your estimate of how often it wins.

At a 50% win estimate, expected net result is -$0.45 per bet. At 55%, it is +$0.50. The price has not improved. The assumption has changed. Before treating the positive number as an opportunity, ask what evidence supports that extra five percentage points.

Illustrative example, not a historical backtest. Expected net = stake × (win probability × decimal odds − 1). Neither probability is a measured win rate. A single bet can lose the full $10; neither average is a promised return.
01 / DEFINE THE QUESTION

Decide what would count as evidence.

Write down the markets, prices, selection rules and assumptions before reviewing results. A historical test needs timestamped odds and outcomes, consistent settlement rules and unseen data. The current Forge does not supply that backtesting workflow.

02 / INSPECT A BLUEPRINT

Read the inputs behind the output.

In the NFL Forge, review the legs, source data and warnings on a ready blueprint. Its risk analysis calculates odds-based estimates, including break-even and potential loss. It does not verify a model against historical games. Generation depends on provider availability.

03 / KEEP THE RECORD

Separate the forecast from the result.

Google sign-in lets you save blueprints and track bets for later review. Keep the original price and reasoning in your own review process. A winning run is not proof that a strategy has an edge, and a saved record is not an independently audited performance claim.

Choose the tool for the question.

Use StakeSmith when you want to review NFL blueprints and keep records around your decisions. If you need custom historical testing, compare the spreadsheet workflow and arrange suitable data. For the relationship between a multi-leg payout and its chance of winning, read the parlay math walkthrough.

THE DETAILS

Before you decide.

Can StakeSmith backtest a strategy against historical seasons?

The current Forge is a blueprint review workflow, not a historical backtest engine. This page does not promise a historical dataset, custom model importer or out-of-sample validation. Use a separate dataset and testing process for those tasks.

What does the Forge risk analysis tell me?

For a ready blueprint, the risk analysis calculates odds-based probability, break-even and bankroll-impact estimates from its legs. These are calculations under assumptions, not observed results from past games or proof of future performance.

Does positive expected value prove a strategy works?

No. A positive calculated EV depends on the accuracy of the win probability and price. It does not verify an edge. Correlation, bookmaker margin, changing odds and estimation error can change the conclusion.

What access does the review workflow need?

You can open the Forge without signing in. Blueprint generation depends on available data providers. Google sign-in is required to save blueprints or track bets. Tracking records a decision; it does not place a wager.

21+. Educational and entertainment use. Estimates depend on assumptions. You may lose money. StakeSmith does not accept or place wagers.
